Building a driveway is a time consuming and expensive project, so you can use another alternative by making a driveway retaining wall to make it more practical and economical. Using gravel to make the retaining wall is a great alternative because it is low cost. However, there are some things that you should put into account to help you successfully maintain your retaining wall for the driveway.
Before start building your driveway retaining wall, you need to firstly measure the width of the blocks you will use for building short retaining walls on the either side of the driveway. The width measurement can be sued to dig a similar trench directly to the outer perimeter of the driveway. Remove the soil only by digging a 3-inch of deep trench using a spade and place the soil and sod in a bucket to transport your work site away. Starting from the bottom of the trench, you can set the first layer of the retaining wall into place. Set the edging blocks inside the trench end to end and leave a little gap between the blocks. Before building the height of the walls, you need to firstly put the first layer of blocks into place. Secure the blocks by applying masonry adhesive to the bottom layer of the retaining walls. To create a more durable retaining wall, you can set the blocks into place over the first layer and slightly stagger the second layer from the first layer. Keep placing the layers of edging pavers until the parts of the retaining wall are completed in your desire height. it should be 6 to 10 inches to retain the gravel on your driveway.
